The Downtown Rental Center & Program Support Graduate Assistant (GA) is a 12-month position that serves as the primary coordinator for operations of the downtown rental center in Hazel Ruby McQuain park (a joint venture between Adventure WV and the City of Morgantown).
The GA will work primarily out of the downtown rental center during its operational season, with support from other Program Support & Rental operations students, GA and professionals. Some time will also be spent working out of the Outdoor Recreation Center. During the off-season, the primary work location will be the Outdoor Recreation Center.
Downtown rental center operations falling under the purview of the GA include staff recruitment, hiring, training and scheduling, management of daily processes and procedures, proper adherence to policy, use of point-of-sale software, customer service, equipment cleaning and repair, inventory management, and periodic budget analysis.
Off-season, the GA will engage in budget and operational analysis, reporting and planning. The GA will also assist with other AWV critical duties as assigned by the Program Support Specialist and Adventure WV Director.
The GA is also considered part of Adventure WV’s professional trip leadership team and will assist in the leadership of workshops, seminars and outdoor trips. Activity areas may include backpacking, canoeing, whitewater boating, bicycling, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, camping, hiking and service.
The GA will be asked to fulfill responsibilities associated with the Adventure WV program as needed, such as administrative support, class instruction and expedition program leadership. Finally, the GA is part of the Adventure WV management team and is expected to attend periodic staff meetings and retreats, as their academic schedule allows.
A 12-month graduate assistantship at WVU includes a stipend totaling $19,000 per year and a full university tuition waiver. Please refer to Office of Graduate Education & Life for details of fees and college tuition that still apply. If not taking classes during the summer season, the GA may have the opportunity to work hourly full-time instead.
