What does Morgantown Adventure Outfitters do?

We provide both kayak and rail-trail bike rentals along with guided kayak experiences along the Mon River. Rentals are available weekly and are open to the public on a first come, first serve basis. Our guided experiences are also offered on a weekly basis, but must be secured by making a reservation in advance. 


Who Can Participate?

Morgantown Adventure Outfitters and Guided Programs are open to everyone! These activities are group and family focused. There are a few guidelines that you should be aware of if you plan to participate, so be sure to review those prior to scheduling (see next section).

Are thEre any restrictions?

In addition to Adventure WV’s standard Essential Eligibility Criteria, participants seeking to participate in either our equipment rentals or Guided Programs must:

  • Be comfortable utilizing the equipment provided.
  • Be in moderate to good health; active participation is required.
  • Be able to understand and follow the guide’s instructions.
  • Wear appropriate footwear while participating in the program. Securely fitting, closed-toe footwear is best.

Participation is not advised and may be denied if any of the following are applicable to the participant:

  • Pregnancy
  • Recent, reoccurring or existing injuries and serious musculoskeletal disorders
  • Medical conditions that could require immediate medical attention such as a seizure disorder
  • Under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or legal drugs that may impair participant in any way

Staff members reserve the right to deny participation to any participant if their physical or mental condition could endanger self or others.

How Much Does It Cost?

We no longer charge per hour for rentals. Guests will now be charged a flat rate for up to 3 hours of use. Bikes and single kayaks are $25, double kayaks $30, and children's bikes $15. Visit our respective rental equipment and Guided Programs pages to learn more about pricing and availability. 

How long does it take?

Guests are charged a flat rate for up to 3 hours of use.

The length of our Guided Programs are approximately 2.5 - 3 hours. This includes everything from a brief introduction, gear up, the actual experience, and the returning of equipment. 

Should I arrive early? Where should I go?

Morgantown Adventure Outfitters is located at 10 Walnut Street in Morgantown, West Virginia. Located just along the Mon River Rail Trail, and just adjacent to the Hazel Ruby McQuain Ampitheater. Morgantown Adventure Outfitters is home to both kayak and bike rentals and guided programs. 

  • Equipment Rentals: it is encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes before your anticipated time of use. This will help ensure we have adequate time for payment, paperwork and general equipment outfitting. Please note that equipment rentals operate on a first come, first serve basis. 

  • Guided Programs: Participants on Guided Programs are also encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early prior to their scheduled program time. This should permit enough time for participants to use the bathroom, check-in and complete paperwork prior to their experience.  

Individuals should utilize the parking lot that is connected with the EZ Launch for kayak and canoes at Walnut Landing, and just in front of the Morgantown Adventure Outfitters facility.

What should I wear?

Participants should wear comfortable, athletic clothing (dresses or skirts are not recommended). It is important to dress for the weather as operate rain or shine. This may include rain jackets, warm layers, and warm footwear. We strongly encourage securely fitting, closed-toe footwear. Be sure to bring any prescribed fast acting medication such as an inhaler or epi pen.

Do Children Need Accompanied by an Adult?

Yes. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. 

Morgantown Adventure Outfitters is equipped with a select stock of children specific equipment. This includes bikes, Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUPs) and personal floatation devices (PFDs). Tandem kayaks are available for use when kayaking with children. Child bike trailers are also available for rent with our rail trail bikes. 

What is your weather policy?

Morgantown Adventure Outfitters is an outdoor facility that operates in a wide variety of weather conditions. Dangerous weather during the scheduled program allows for rescheduling or cancellation without accruing a fee. Dangerous weather includes electrical storms, extreme temps, high winds, etc.
