Frequently Asked Questions

We provide a variety of trips, with trip lengths ranging from partial day trips here in Morgantown to multi-day trips throughout West Virginia. We also have trips focusing on meeting new people as well as trips devoted to various technical skills, such as backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, or skiing.

Trips are designed for WVU students as the primary audience. However, Guided Trips are open to all Student Recreation Center members, including WVU Faculty and Staff. Student Recreation Center members may sponsor a guest   (such as family members and partners) at the discretion of Adventure WV management. If approved, all sponsored guests can register for the trip through WVUGo by making a Guest account. Their sponsor must be accompanying them on the trip. All participants must meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria. Please note that our trips are not designed for children, as we do not carry children's equipment. For questions email AWVGuidedTrips@mail.wvu.edu

Adventure WV provides all the equipment you’ll need except for personal clothing and a water bottle. If you are prescribed any fast-acting medication, such as an Epi-pen or an inhaler, please bring those with you as well.

After registering, you will receive information detailing what you should, and can, bring on your trip. If you have further questions about bringing your personal gear, please email us at awvguidetrips@mail.wvu.edu.

To see recommended packing lists for your trip, see the Adventure WV Guided Trips Packing Lists.

All of our trips are available for registration via WVUGo. You can also register for programs in person at the Outdoor Recreation Center when they are open. Payment done online or in-person, must be done with a credit card or can be charged to a students STAR account. For questions about how to charge a trip's cost to STAR please email us at  AWVGuidedTrips@mail.wvu.edu .

Most of our trips do not require prior experience. Our guides will provide the expertise needed to teach and help you succeed in the trip you register for, though all participants must meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria. In some cases, such as downhill skiing trips, we do not provide instruction for the activity itself and simply provide transportation to and from the program site.

Cost varies from trip to trip. Your fee covers instruction, equipment, transportation, and food (if relevant). Payment can be accepted online through WVUGo or in-person at the Outdoor Recreation Center. If you have paid for a trip and have questions about our refund policy, please see our Registered Students page.

Scholarships are available to international students and to any student registered for an extended trip, whether domestic or international.

International students need to complete a scholarship application and are eligible for up to $50 off of one trip per semester. For information about this scholarship opportunity, or to apply, please email globalaffairs@mail.wvu.edu .

Participants of extended trips are eligible for up to $400 for domestic trips and up to $1000 for international trips. For more information, including application criteria and deadlines, see our scholarships page .

Adventure WV employs student staff to serve as guides for our trips. All of our Guides hold a Wilderness First Aid certification, leadership training, and training specific to the activity they are leading.
