Each summer, incoming Mountaineers start their WVU journey by going on a First-Year Trip.

These trips explore some of most incredible outdoor places and set you up for success before the start of school. Make genuine connections, explore your new home, and arrive at WVU one step ahead

Adventure WV First-Year Trips offer several ways to start your WVU journey.

Don't wait until move-in day to find your people. More than 14,000 WVU students have started their college journey on a First-Year Trip, and they'll tell you it made all the difference. Pick your adventure, arrive with friends, and make the most of your WVU experience.

All First-Year Trips include:
  • Cost $95 or less with no upfront payment. 
  • No prior outdoor experience required.
  • Small groups led by trained WVU student leaders
  • Meaningful conversations that give you a head start to college
  • A built-in community before the start of school

Eligibility Criteria

Quest

Our most affordable & flexible, this four-day trip explores Coopers Rock, Morgantown & the places you'll soon call home

  • Locations: Morgantown and Coopers Rock, WV
  • Activities: hiking, climbing, riverfront biking and paddling, WV travel day
About Quest

Trek

A five-day trip exploring West Virginia's national park through rafting, hiking, and unforgettable views. 

  • Locations:  New River Gorge National Park 
  • Activities: Whitewater rafting, Bridge Walk, stand-up paddleboarding, hiking, and a local farm visit

Explore

A six-day trip explores the wild and wonderful side of West Virginia through backpacking and whitewater rafting. 

  • Locations:  Seneca Creek/Spruce Knob or Dolly Sods, Fayetteville, WV
  • Activities: Wilderness backpacking, Whitewater rafting

Odyssey

A six-day trip that includes a mix of travel and participating in the region's best outdoor adventures.

  • Locations: Coopers Rock, WV, Ohiopyle, PA, and Seneca Rocks, WV
