Fall Family Weekend FAQ
What are these Adventure Activities? What all do they include?
Adventure WV has partnered with the WVU Parents Club to offer outdoor adventure activities throughout Fall Family Weekend. These activities are specific to WVU students and their families and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. A wide variety of activities will be held at various program sites.
The main intent of these activities are to allow WVU students and their families the opportunity to have a shared experience and enjoy time together in supportive and adventurous environment.
- No prior experience is necessary. All programs will be offered at a beginner skill level
- No specialized equipment is needed - Adventure WV will outfit each participants with the necessary items to participate
- All programs will be offered on a first come, first serve basis
- Programs may include the following:
- Zip-Line Canopy Tour
- Hiking at Coopers Rock
- Rock Climbing at Cooper's Rock
- High Rope Aerial Adventures
- Kayaking
- Bike Riding along the Mon River Rail Trail
- Transportation to and from these event check-in locations is not included - and will be the responsibility of the group. A shuttle to program locations, however, will be provided for Rock Climbing at Cooper's Rock and Hiking at Coopers Rock.
- Aside from water and general refreshments - no proper meals will be provided.
When and where are the Adventure Activities located?
Morgantown has abundant access to great outdoor resources. Whether it's Cooper's Rock, Cheat Lake, the Mon River Rail Trail, or WVU's Outdoor Education Center, many different activities are available and multiple program sites.
The majority of activities held over Fall Family Weekend will take place at either of the following locations:
- Cooper's Rock State Forest
- Morgantown Adventure Outfitters
- The WVU Outdoor Education Center
Upon registration, each group will receive a confirmation reflecting their purchase. This will include links to download participant paperwork and directions to each program site. Other specifics will be listed on this confirmation, such as activity specifics and suggested arrival times.

What can I expect by participating?
These programs were developed specifically for students and their families. With fall being a special time on campus and around the region, these activities put families in the middle of what what makes WVU and West Virginia special.
Each activity is different - but will include the elements of fun, challenge and adventure. Most programs are group based - meaning families will have the opportunity to stay together. All activities are guided - meaning staff will be provided to help facilitate the experience.
Although elements of each activities differ - most programs will include the following segments.
Potential topics and events include:
- General welcome and introduction of staff and program area
- Introduction of program gear and its usage
- Review of policies, procedures and participant responsibilities
- "Ground School" - allowing participants to practice skill before participation.

Who can attend this event?
Short answer - Any WVU Student and attendees of WVU's Fall Family Weekend
All Adventure Activities held over WVU's Fall Family Weekend will be open to WVU Students and their families. Although certain program do include restrictions, most activates do accept a wide variety of skill and age ranges.
