Job Content: Canopy Tour Guides are responsible for conducting safe educational and enjoyable experiences on the WVU Canopy Tour in keeping with program policies and industry standards.
- Delivers engaging natural resource curriculum using an interpretive approach
- Completes daily inspection of course and equipment
- Completes daily paperwork documenting programming and incidents
- Works with course manager to provide safe, effective programming
- Conducts safe, enjoyable canopy tour experiences
Terms of Employment: Typical employment will run from April through November. Occasional work may be available during the off season. Open enrollment tours take place on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) with occasional groups scheduled during the week. Guide schedules are determined 1 month in advance.
Essential Requirements: Safety and Supervision: Demonstrates ability to use sound judgement to keep safety a high priority. Planning and preparation: Ability to be organized and timely in communicating with participants, other guides, and program management. Arrives at outdoor education center in a timely manner prepared for the tour. Experience: Fully trained on WVU Canopy Tour, including local operating procedures and educational curriculum. Physical: Guides should have the ability to perform their required duties for extended periods of time while exposed to adverse conditions including, but not limited to, rough terrain, precipitation, temperature extremes, and wind. Technical: Guides show competency in the technical skills associated with the challenge course operation, including knots, belay skills and personal protective equipment such as harness and helmets. Communication: Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, to both participants and other staff members. Ability to relate and work with diverse populations of participants. Teamwork: Team oriented and dedicated to the goals set fourth by the Adventure WV Canopy Tour program. Works as a team member with others in scheduling, facilitating, and operating the WVU Canopy Tour. Dependability: Responds to scheduling requests in a timely manner. Is reliable when scheduled. Arrives at facilitation site on time. Maintains a commitment to the success of the course. Follows local operating procedures and the program plan set by the Lead Facilitator.Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 18 Years of Age
- Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
- WVU/Bonsai Canopy Tour Guide Certification + Facilitation Portfolio
