The PSSRO Graduate Assistant (GA) is as 12-month position that assists in the management of critical Adventure WV Program Support Staff and Rental operations. The PSSRO GA works primarily out of the Outdoor Recreation Center (in the Student Recreation Center on Evansdale Campus), but will also assist in the operations of the downtown rental center (coming online Fall 2002).
Working at the direction of Adventure WV’s Program Support Specialist (PSS), the GA assists in training, scheduling, and supervising student program support and rental operation staff.
The GA follows AWV systems to prepare equipment and food for programs, manage check in/check out and cleaning processes, manage inventory, assist with vehicle and trailer fleet management, and repair equipment.
The GA also assists with rental operations, ensuring quality equipment, attentive customer service (personally and by student staff), proper procedures, and proper use of rental systems and software.
The GA is also considered part of Adventure WV’s professional trip leadership team and will assist in the leadership of workshops, seminars, and outdoor trips. Activity areas may include backpacking, canoeing, whitewater boating, bicycling, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, camping, hiking and service.
The GA will be asked to fulfill responsibilities associated with the Adventure WV program as needed, such as administrative support, class instruction, and expedition program leadership. Finally, the GA is part of the Adventure WV management team and is expected to attend periodic staff meetings and retreats, as their academic schedule allows.
A 12-month graduate assistantship at WVU includes a stipend totaling $19,000 per year and a full university tuition waiver. Please refer to Office of Graduate Education & Life for details of fees and college tuition that still apply. If not taking classes during the summer season, the GA may have the opportunity to work hourly full-time instead.
